Chloe came into the room with her head bent over sideways, eyes squinched and her mouth all screwed up in deep concentration.
"Look! Mommy, look! I've been working really hard!"
I burst out laughing -- 'cause she was being funny, right? No, she was dead serious. A few more seconds and I figured out what she was doing.
She was winking.
With forced seriousness, I offered to take her picture so that she could see on the viewfinder how well she was doing.
What do you think?

In a wholly unrelated matter (except that it happened the same day) ... I asked the girls what they thought of the movie "James and the Giant Peach." Chloe shrugged and said, "I liked it pretty much. Except for the wickedness." Ellie chimed in, "Yeah, the wickedness was not very good."

HA! I love the wink! my mission friends and I had a joke about creepy winks and we'd have contests to see who could have the creepiest wink. And since it's beautiful Chloe I don't think I could ever attach the word creepy to her but it sure is comical.
And tell your girls to lighten up - they are such prudes about wickedness. but I like how Ellie is like - yeah the wickedness was not very good. Like she's only into movies with well done wickedness.
I think she's got it. Jared can only wink with one eye. Who knew winking was such a talent you had to work on. I'm glad you were able to document the occasion with pictures.
oh yes, that is a good wink! and i love the wickedness comment. ha! my girls did NOT like the wicked rhino and the wicked aunts.
jane was also VERY disturbed about the grinch who stole christmas. i don't think i've ever seen her so upset during a movie as when the grinch was stealing all the gifts and stuffing them in his bag.
Jeff and I had to stop watching a couple of TV series because we didn't like the wickedness. I'm starting him on Gilmore Girls now, and he's actually initiated watching it a couple times, of which I am extremely proud.
P.S. Thank you for your kind note about my grandma.
Yeah, wickedness is never very good, but that wink sure is!
Those little girls are following in your shoes as movie critics already. How many stars did they give it?
I ruefully admit Chloe gets her weakness at winking from me.
Wickedness never was happiness, you know. I heard that somewhere. Dang that wickedness... and stiffneckedness... and abominations, etc....
