Happy Day

Heavy, heavy hangover thy head round,
What do you wish with a hole in the ground?

How's that for a nice birthday present?
On Mike's birthday, we finally broke ground! I was starting to believe we were just running around filling out forms, jumping through hoops, and handing out wads of cash just for fun. And let me tell you, that stuff is FUN. But no! There is a real live house in the works!
I'm kind of shocked.

Here's our hard-working crew.
The crew taking a break to let the others work for a while. Yes, that's a bone in Ellie's hand. Her uncle Leo walked up and handed her a bone. It didn't last long. Just too tempting to hit things (siblings) with it. Otherwise, a bone is a delightful toy.

Look what else we found! It was unearthed during the excavation. Karen said she'd misplaced one just like it. Hee, hee. (Karen is Navajo.) Sadly, sadly, this picture is the only evidence we have as we quickly, quickly lost it.

A Tractor of Gold at the End of the RainbowAnd here is Mike's artistic picture of the day.

ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL?

hoooooray! so exciting! i expect you to post all progress. caleb says he won't call his friends at sagebrush consulting (where he worked) to report you for building on sacred indian ground or something. is that why you quickly lost it? or did you really lose it?

We really lost it - boo hoo. It's probably in that dirt somewhere and will be put back to rest around the house. Sigh. It's as it should be, I guess. We're just not up to playing find the artifact in the dirt-stacks.

Ahoy, underneath that precious loam there be fine draining rocks. Lots and lots of 'em. We need to come up and see that hole and jump into it and stuff.

Yeah! I was begging to Think all those meetings with builders were made up so you could get away from kids for a night. It is so nice to have the work in progress. We will be up soon to see your beautiful hole.
